About Us
Why Stewardship Comes Before Solutions
WhyKnot was formed around a simple but uncomfortable observation: most well-intentioned community efforts eventually stall because the systems they rely on were never designed to support them sustainably.
Programs launch with energy and funding. Over time, costs rise, margins shrink, participation becomes harder to maintain, and the original mission gets diluted. Leaders change. Funders change. Priorities shift. The system underneath stays broken.
WhyKnot exists to work upstream of all of that.
We are a 501(c)(3) public-benefit nonprofit created specifically to steward economic infrastructure — the rules, mechanisms, and governance that determine how value is created, circulated, and retained within communities.
We ensure that the foundational economic structure they rely on is coherent, defensible, and aligned with public benefit.

Why This Matters
Economic systems outlast leadership, funding cycles, and political climates. If those systems are extractive, communities slowly lose ground no matter how hard they work. If those systems are regenerative and governed, effort compounds instead of leaking away
